This 73-year-old with terminal cancer is all set to skydive next month for charity

A terminally-ill woman from Derbyshire is planning to skydive over 10,000 feet in aid of local charity Treetops Hospice Care.

Eileen Fieldsend, from Chaddesden, was diagnosed with cancer last August, but has since decided to take on the adrenaline-fuelled challenge to raise funds for a fantastic cause.

She plans to complete her 10,000 feet parachute jump next month, on the 26th March.

The 73-year-old's decision came after her three daughters persuaded her to create a bucket list shortly after her diagnosis.

Eileen, who has 'maybe a year or longer to live', says: 'There's things I've always wanted to do but either I've never had the money to do it, or my late husband Ken didn't want to do it.

'First of all I want to do a parachute jump. I want to go to the Eden Project and I want to have a flight in a helicopter – and all three are booked!'

The charity which Eileen is jumping for – Treetops Hospice Care – is one very close to her heart.

After her late husband Ken was diagnosed with cancer a few years back, he required around-the-clock assistance. But, Treetops Hospice were there to provide night nurses for Ken through their 'Hospice at Home service' – which allowed Eileen to get some much-needed sleep through the night thanks to the charity's 'absolutely fantastic' help.

After Ken's passing in 2016, Eileen began volunteering at the charity's Oakwood store.

Since her own diagnosis, she now visits the Treetops Day Care Unit based in Risley every Wednesday. But, with her skydive booked, Eileen is certainly not letting her illness stop her from achieving her life-long dreams.

'You stay positive and do what you want to do,' says Eileen. 'The way I look at it, I'm not going to get much longer. I've got nothing to lose. I've got to make the most of it.'

Eileen has already smashed her fundraising target of £480, having now raised over £1,100.
